Suicide Bereavement Support Program

The Suicide Bereavement Support Program is a 6-week program for people who have lost a loved one to suicide. This unique program helps those struggling after a suicide, to gain insight, education and understanding about the loss, within an environment of mutual support, mutual respect and shared experience.

The program is held at various times throughout the year, during the evening, and registration is limited to 7 participants. It is recommended that only one person per family attend each 6-week session and the program is open to people coping with a recent suicide or a suicide that occurred a long time ago. There is no cost to attend.

For more information or to register for the next 6-week session, please call Lori Veltkamp at 345-0950 ext 6.

Annual Suicide Bereavement Memorial Service

The Leeds-Grenville branch hosted its first Suicide Bereavement Memorial Service on September 10, 2006. This date was chosen to coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day which is when communities are encouraged to take a moment and reflect on the impact of suicide.

Our first service was held at the Centennial Road Standard Church and gave people the opportunity to acknowledge a loved one who had died by suicide. It included a candle lighting ceremony, various readings and music, and was followed by a social hour.

Since 2006, we have hosted a Suicide Bereavement Memorial Service every September 10th.  Anyone in the community is welcome to attend our service and it is meant to be non-denominational. Those who wish to have their loved one acknowledged during our next service should call Lori Veltkamp at 345-0950 ext 6.
